This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This pilot study will use formative protocol development methods in a two-group longitudinal study with subjects randomly assigned to a treatment or control group to evaluate cryotherapy intervention (n=30) in chronic venous disease. The investigators hypothesize that cooling the skin improves microcirculation and will reduce leg pain and improve quality of life in the study group. In the pilot study they aim to assess the feasibility of recruiting, educating and administering this novel therapy in the study group, assess outcome measures and estimate sample size for further studies, and assess preliminary outcome data. Treatment involves four weeks of daily gel wraps on the lower extremity for 30 minutes.
