This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of vitamin D supplementation in the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD) in a discrete subset of patients for whom AD either develops or worsens in wintertime. We propose a small, one month, double blind, placebo controlled interventional pilot trial comparing children supplemented with vitamin D to those taking only placebo. Patients will be assessed clinically at one month by a validated AD severity scale (EASI) which will serve as the primary outcome. Secondary outcomes will include an Investigator's Global Assessment, patient quality of life index, subgroup analysis, and baseline and one month serum vitamin D levels in select volunteer patients.
