Abstract

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.A major deficit in neonatal intensive care is the inability to predict and prevent brain injury, a common occurrence, especially among the most preterm infants. This study is designed to assess the usefulness of novel computerized analysis of continuous bedside bihemispheric amplitude-integrated electroencephalographic (aEEG) monitoring in predicting neonatal brain injury in evolution. The primary outcome measure is evidence brain injury by magnetic resonance imaging obtained at term-equivalent gestational age (36-44 weeks post-menstrual age).
