This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a common sleep disorder that is reported to effect between 2 and 5% of the population. Although the pathophysiology of RLS is unknown, there is a significant body of preclinical and clinical research that implicates brain iron deficiency. The PI has an ongoing protocol to investigate the effect of IV iron for the treatment of RLS. The proposed research will assess the efficacy of supplemental IV iron therapy in those that responded to IV iron previously.
