Abstract

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. (from ClinicalTrials.gov website) Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as 3-AP (triapine) and gemcitabine, work in different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining 3-AP with gemcitabine may kill more tumor cells. This is a Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combining 3-AP with gemcitabine in treating patients who have refractory metastatic breast cancer.
