This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The overall aims of the study are to: 1) evaluate the efficacy of treatment with low-dose Piroxicam in preventing recurrences of adenomatous polyps in the large bowel, 2) examine the efficacy of supplementation with high-dose (elemental) Calcium in preventing the recurrence of adenomatous polyps in the large bowel, and 3) evaluate the effect(s) of Calcium and Piroxicam on specific surrogate endpoint markers. Overall, there will be 1000 subjects randomized into the study. At WFUSM we anticipate randomizing 100 subjects. Subjects will be men and women between 18 and 75 years of age with the diagnosis of at least one adenomatous large bowel polyp found on colonoscopy within one year prior to entry into the study.
