Abstract

This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Adults with asthma will be asked to take VSL#3, a food additive called a probiotic twice a day for 3 months. Volunteers will have their asthma monitored before, during and after taking the VSL#3. Monitoring with urine and blood tests will happen also at the start and end of taking the VSL#3 and phone calls or short visits to check asthma control and provide more VSL#3 will occur at 1 week, 1 and 2 months on product with a final call 6 months after completing the study.
