Core C provides essential support for the generation and characterization of mouse mosaic models by Program investigators. The models supported by the Core include a myc-induced lymphoma model, a mosaic model of hepatocellular carcinoma, and a mosaic model of mammary carcinoma - all three of which are were developed by Program investigators and are used throughout the Program. The Core will maintain a series of animal colonies that provide a source of progenitor cells or recipient animals for the production of mouse mosaics. It will also isolate hematopoietic, liver, and mammary progenitor cells using protocols established by the Program for use by individual Projects, and train and assist Project investigators in the generation of mouse mosaics and in monitoring of tumorigenesis. Finally, the Core incorporates a highly skilled pathologist and histology service to enable a detailed characterization of various pathological phenotypes. These services bring to the Program unique, high quality, and cost effective services that enable each Project to effectively use in vivo models to probe various aspects of normal and tumor biology.
