This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The Cytometry Core is located in Reno and was established to provide cell analysis services to UNR/UNSOM faculty on a fee for service basis. The core is run by a very experienced and innovative director who provides support for experimental design, development of new cytometric technologies, and data analysis in addition to processing samples. One important service of the core is the provision of tested and titrated antibodies to a wide variety of murine and human antigens that are available on a cost recovery basis. The Cytometry Core is largely self sufficient via a recharge account for instrument time and antibodies and received minimal support through the INBRE (15% director's salary). The primary reason for including the core in the INBRE was to help mentor the establishment of an effective Cytometry Center at UNLV. The Director of the Reno core will continue that role. Development of an effective Cytometry Service Core at Las Vegas is essential for 1 of the INBRE Target Faculty research projects. The increased number of biomedical faculty that will be hired in the College of Science and the School of Dental Science at UNLV will greatly increase the need for cell analysis capability at UNLV.
