This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The focus this subproject is Community-Based Participatory Action Research (CBPR), which is a research approach that brings community members and health researchers together in an attempt to resolve local health issues. The goal of CBPR is for community members to work together to improve the health and well-being of their community. The long range goal is to establish and maintain long term campus-community partnerships. These partnerships, involving everyone in the community, are designed to advance research about rural community health of the citizens of Wyoming. The structure for the community-focused health research project comprises five types of activity: 1) start-up organizational activities; 2) community engagement and health assessment data collection; 3) community health data analysis; 4) health status reporting and community-focused planning; and, 5) preparation for implementation of the model in other Wyoming communities as an ongoing process of infrastructure building.
