The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.COBRE Core C is also known as the Protein Purification Group (PPG). The PPG is housed in the Structural Biology Center and hosted within the University of Kansas Biochemical Research Service Laboratory (BRSL). The latter is a member of the Molecular Structures Group (MSG), a confederation of independent Research-Service Laboratories on the KU campus. The Protein Purification Group (PPG) has two major missions. The first is to overexpress and purify properly folded functional proteins in quantities sufficient for functional studies (catalytic, biological), binding studies (small ligands or macromolecules), structural studies (X-ray, NMR), and high throughput screening operations. Its sedond mission is to assist investigators in characterization of their proteins using modern analytical methods including 2D-electrophoresis, isoelectric focusing, peptide mapping, capillary HPLC, surface plasmon resonance, MALDI-TOF MS and MS/MS. The PPG staff consists of two experienced full-time Ph.D. protein biochemists and a Director who also directs the KU-BRSL.
