This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The responsibilities and functions of the Administrative and Mentoring Core have been described in detail in the body of the main grant. The primary function of the Core is to ensure that mentoring of young promising junior investigators is successful and that the young investigators are progressing toward the goal of independent funding. A second important goal for the Core is to maintain and enhance communications with higher administration within the PBRC and LSU-Baton Rouge, and use this communication to identify future young investigators that can become a part of the COBRE program. A final important goal of the Core is to ensure that the Young Investigators funded by COBRE cover both clinical and basic science disciplines and that diversity of gender and ethnicity is accomplished as far as possible within the boundaries of maintaining excellence in the program.
