The Research Training/Information Transfer Core will continue to focus on the acquisition and dissemination of information appropriate to the ADC's overall goals. There are 3 primary aims; 1) To provide information transfer and education services about dementia to professionals, paraprofessionals and lay persons; 2) To utilize information transfer as a means of outreach to underserved populations; and 3) To provide informational and educational support for the development of a full continuum of care for persons with dementia and their caregivers. A particular focus will be assisting caregivers in developing behavioral management strategies, recognizing stress, and dealing with the problems of caregiving. In addition, we will continue to evaluate the technical quality of our advanced telecommunication distribution of information and education regarding a) accessibility for the target population, b) interactive capability, c) quality of audio and video signals, and d) recipient satisfaction. The Minnesota Governor's Task Force on Alzheimer's Disease Report in 1987 established the need for statewide education. This report was used as a guidepost in our first application. In the 3 1 2 years since the establishment of the mayo ADC, it has rapidly become a local and regional resource and contributed to activities on a national level. To accomplish our objectives we will adapt and expand our educational programming to more effectively and efficiently met regional needs. The ADC will offer more programming at our facility to targeted groups of professionals, paraprofessionals, laypersons and community groups. We will evaluate our interventions. We will continue our efforts to sere the rural populations in the Upper Midwest and African American community in Jacksonville, Florida. ADC staff will participate in the recruitment and training of minority studies. Finally, our staff will respond to the absence of day care, foster care and specialized long term care in our region by working to organize a full continuum of care in support of persons having dementia, their caregivers, their families and their friends. We endeavor to catalyze a regional continuum of options for care of dementia patients and their families.
