I. Infectious Diseases CoreBrief Abstract:The Infectious Diseases Core will serve as a resource regarding clinical infectious disease issues, providingconsultation and training for CDUHR and other NDRI investigators. While the focus of this Core will be oninfectious diseases related to drug use and HIV, Dr. Perlman (with input from consultants and clinical medicineexperts invited for visits to CDUHR) will also provide training and consultation regarding other biomedicalissues critical for developing an enhanced interdisciplinary (biomedical and socio-behavioral) understanding ofHIV and related infections in drug users and their networks. Dr. Des Jarlais will facilitate international researchon HIV and related infections in drug users. Bi-directional training, involving the CDUHR socio-behavioralinvestigators and clinical ID investigators from our affiliated medical institutions in New York, will be undertakento support and encourage this interdisciplinary research agenda.
