I. Infectious Diseases Core Brief Abstract: The Infectious Diseases Core will serve as a resource regarding clinical infectious disease issues, providing consultation and training for CDUHR and other NDRI investigators. While the focus of this Core will be on infectious diseases related to drug use and HIV, Dr. Perlman (with input from consultants and clinical medicine experts invited for visits to CDUHR) will also provide training and consultation regarding other biomedical issues critical for developing an enhanced interdisciplinary (biomedical and socio-behavioral) understanding of HIV and related infections in drug users and their networks. Dr. Des Jarlais will facilitate international research on HIV and related infections in drug users. Bi-directional training, involving the CDUHR socio-behavioral investigators and clinical ID investigators from our affiliated medical institutions in New York, will be undertaken to support and encourage this interdisciplinary research agenda.
