This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.The Allis laboratory at The Rockefeller University studies how post-translational modifications on histones affect the biology of chromatin. In this regard, we are working towards a complete map of post-translational modifications on histone H3 from Schizosaccharomyces pombe. Dr. Tanny has isolated H3 via column chromatography. We are using a combination of single and tandem mass spectrometry to identify the sites and types of modifications. Current efforts on this project: 1) finish mapping the post-translational modifications, and 2) compare the post-translational modifications from asynchronous growth to that at certain stages of growth such as mitosis.
