This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This project develops Chimera visualization capabilities needed for the Virus Particle Explorer (VIPERdb) web site (http://viperdb.scripps.edu). The VIPERdb web site catalogs molecular models and electron microscopy density maps of icosahedral virus particles. It presents images of virus capsids showing the shapes and packing of proteins, the icosahedral lattice, and radially depth coloring. The Chimera package is used to produce some of these images using commands or scripts developed specifically for the web site. This project involves the ongoing development of these Chimera commands and scripts. The VIPERdb web site is a project of an NCRR Biomedical Technology Research Resource called Multiscale Modeling Tools for Structural Biology (MMTSB) directed by Charles Brooks.
