This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. We have recently obtained crystals of the intact bacterial ribosome that diffract x-rays beyond 3.9 Angstroms. It is possible that these crystals could diffract to atomic resolution (3 Angstroms). The atomic resolution structure of the intact bacterial ribosome will be a groundbreaking result in biology, and will impact our general understanding of protein synthesis and the function of numerous antimicrobial agents.
