This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.We propose the determination of proteins associated with two distinct cellular processes, nitrogen assimilation and motor neuron growth. In both cases we have crystallized proteins associated with these processes and obtained initial diffraction data in order to determine their structures. For the nitrogen assimilation process, we have crystallized two proteins and obtain preliminary models. For the motor neuron growth, we have crystals of one protein and a partial model. We request beam time at SSRL in order to obtain higher resolution data from these crystals as in all cases we appear to be limited by the thinness of the crystals.
