This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The replacement of large conventional PMTs with litographically produced small PMTs would have many advantages beside costs. Prototypes of such Si-based PMTs are available, and the aim of this service project is to measure the transient time-spread function of such devices using a fast laser excitation source. We also would like to measure the dead-time interval. The Radiology Department is especially interested in such low-cost and small PMT devices for PET scanners.
