This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The Barry laboratory is involved in genetic engineering of viral gene therapy vectors including adenovirus, adeno-associated virus, and enveloped viruses. As we add and subtract cell-targeting ligands to the viruses by genetic engineering, this in some cases produces viruses with reduced or aberrant abilities to enter cells. To better understand this, this project is performing cryo-EM reconstructions of engineered viruses to determine how our genetic engineering affects the fundamental structure of the virions.
