This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The principal focus of this activity is to determine the relative timing in brain functional activation of activated metabolism due to ATP breakdown and diffusion of AMP from the ATPase site to the arterioles. The Functional Optical Imaging method used in subproject 0076 was used for studying the ability of blood flow measurements obtained during cognitive exercise to detect risk for progression from MCI (minor cognitive impairment) to dementia in AIDS patients.
