This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Our work consists in the physical chemical study of a family nonionic surfactants, consisting in different length of alkylic chains with a sucrose moiety as hydrophyllic head. Now we emphasize the on effect of the presence of concentrations below the solubilization critical point in vesicles or liposomes, in order to study the effects on several vesicular properties. In this visit, in direct collaboration with Dr, Susana Sanchez, we are trying to clarify the effect of the presence of the myristil derivative in the removing of cholesterol from the bilayer. The experiments are going to be performed in DODAC vesicles and POPC liposomes
