This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.VCAM-1 and ICAM-1 are the main endothelial adhesion receptors involved in leukocyte transendothelial migration. We have found that VCAM-1 and ICAM-1 co-localize at the lymphocyte-endothelium contact area independently of ligand engagement and cytoskeleton anchorage. Based on these data, we are currently investigating the possible homo- and heterodimerization of both receptors using Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Microscopy (FLIM).
