This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Muscle LIM protein is a component of the sarcomeric Z-disc, where it interacts with alpha-actinin and telethonin (T-cap). Knockout of the MLP gene in mice results in dilated cardiomyopathy, including decreased protein synthesis and Z-line abnormalities. We have shown that ablation of an inhibitor of protein translation can partially rescue the MLP KO phenotype, resulting in improved cardiac function in MLP KO mice. We would like to determine whether also Z-line organization is normalized.
