This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The recent improvements in gathering molecular sequence data by molecular biologists and biochemists has brought with it both the ability and need to perform phylogenetic analyses on larger, more complex data sets and to perform analyses to answer new kinds of questions about the relationships among biological organisms. This project concerns the parallization of Phylip package using the MPI message passing library to enable large scale phylogenetic studies that rely on bootstrapping to be performed within a moderate amount of time on a moderate number of processors.
