This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Hsl7 during much of the cell cycle is tethered to the bud neck via Hsl1. Interestingly, V. Cid et al., observed that during G1, prior to Hsl7's arrival at the bud neck, Hsl7 localizes to the SPB. While most of the identified components of the SPB have obvious structural roles, several examples of proteins with regulatory/signaling roles that localize to this subcellular structure have also been characterized. A subset of these include proteins that localize to the SPB specifically during M phase and are involved in coordinating SPB dynamics with late mitotic events. The finding that Hsl7 localizes to the SPB during G1 suggests a yet uncharacterized role for Hsl7. The goal is characterizing the binding of Hsl7 to the SPB.
