This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Linear Ion Trap mass spectrometer (LTQ) has the Automatic Gain Control (AGC) functionality that allows limited number of ions to be accumulated in the trap before each scan. We have been testing the minimum number of ions required for LTQ mass spectrometer to produce good quality peptide spectra. The hypothesis is that if the mass spectrometer spends less time in filling the trap with peptide ions, it would spend more time sequencing the ions, which in turn would provide more information of a complex protein mixture.
