This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The NAC Visualization subproject aims to make complex medical information more understandable through interactive, visual presentation. The visualization core customizes general visualization techniques for use in medical applications, promotes good visualization methods, and works with other cores to best use visualization tools. Examples of the Visualization Core's work in NAC includes incorporating processing and interaction tools for exploring anatomic structures using simplified, flattened maps; enhancing the graphical and semantic characteristics of anatomy atlases and building better systems to display them; and implementing visualization functionality into Slicer, our medical visualization package, based on requirements from NAC's other cores and outside collaborators.
