This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The Investigators of the NAC interact closely with a number of Collaborative Projects, which are the primary beneficiaries of the Resource Center. The main Collaborative Projects represent ongoing research with a long history of scientific and/or clinical interaction between the Investigators. Since the initiation of the NAC funding, the Collaborative Projects have continued to present major application challenges to drive the development of the core technologies. At the same time, the cores have continued to develop and provide novel technology as a service to the Collaborative Projects. This is evidenced by the fact that the majority of the publications produced during the reported period were authored jointly with members of the different Collaborative Projects. Collaborations include work dedicated to image-guided neurosurgery as well as neuroimaging in aging, Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, schizophrenia and schizotypal disorders. The major collaboration efforts with the DOD-funded CIMIT (Center for Innovative Minimally Invasive Therapy) and the NSF-funded ERC (Engineering Research Center), entitled Computer Integrated Surgical Systems and Technologies (CISST), have continued and strengthened. Several projects have significant mutual benefit and are contributing to the development of a common technology base.
