The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Deoxycytidine kinase (dCK) is an enzyme involved in DNA salvage pathway. It phosporylates deoxycytidine, deoxyguanosine, and deoxyadenosine using uridine triphosphate as the preferred phosphate donor. dCK has also been shown to activate several antitumor compounds. This activation process is the rate limiting step for several prodrugs. We are determining the crystal structure of dCK with several compounds to increase our understanding of the enzyme and to aid in the discovery of novel drugs.
