This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The goal of this project is to examine key aspects of erythropoiesis, specifically the latter stages of nuclear extrusion, using cryo x-ray tomography. This will enable us to examine key events, including the reorganization of nuclear substructures to prepare for extrusion, the derivation of vesicles that play a key role in providing the plasma membranes that will surround extruded nuclei and reticulocytes, and the partitioning of organelles and plasma membrane proteins between extruding nuclei and reticulocytes.
