ADMINISTRATIVE COREAbstractThe Administrative Core exercises overall responsibility for satisfying the research and educationmission of the Center. Consisting of the PI and Co-Pis, this Core coordinates the research program inconjunction with managerial tasks (staff hiring, training, and education), budgeting, and assigning space andmaterial resources required to accomplish Center aims and ancillary projects. Quality control is achievedthrough six committees and an external Scientific Advisory Board and Internal Advisory Board. In addition,this Core prepares and updates manuals that describe the Center's policies and procedures in conformancewith University of Pittsburgh, and NIH/NIDA regulations.The Administrative Core provides the faculty leadership essential for maintaining 'centerness' incontext of strategic program development. A formal organizational structure and decisionmaking proceduresare in place to ensure vertical integration between cores and modules, and horizontal integration betweencores and between modules. The PI, Ralph Tarter, Ph.D., M.P.A., directs this Core in collaboration withMaureen Reynolds, Ph.D. (Center Administrator) to facilitate synergy among the Center components andancillary projects.This Center grant operates under the program name Center for Education and Drug AbuseResearch (CEDAR).178
