The Treatment Research Center (TRC) Scientific and Administrative Core provides intellectual andadministrative support for the five scientific components.
The specific aims of the Scientific and AdministrativeCore are: (1) to provide scientific and administrative leadership for the federation of TRC investigators; (2) toensure uniform assessment procedures across components to encourage cross component collaboration; (3) tocollaborate with the Quantitative Core to provide cost-based economic analyses, data management andstatistical support for TRC investigators; (4) to provide training support for drug abuse treatment and servicesresearch, including support for NIDA funded institutional postdoctoral trainees, fellows supported by individualNRSA fellowships, and trainees from other University of California San Francisco (UCSF) programsconducting drug abuse research; (5) to provide support to develop the scientific skills of junior faculty membersin drug abuse treatment and services research and; (6) to disseminate results from TRC studies and studies fromother sites to the clinical and scientific community, and, through dissemination, contribute to the advancementof the clinical community and stimulate scientific discourse. The Scientific and Administrative Core includesseven elements: These are: (1) a core battery which measures important constructs across components anddevelopmental studies; (2) a series of cross-component integrative studies; (3) training enrichment activities,including the Writer's Task Force (WTF), implementation of mechanisms to better integrate TRC trainees intoDepartment of Psychiatry faculty development activities, as well as leadership in a Departmental ResearchRetreat focused on the addictions;(4) dissemination of scientific knowledge to the field via forums, throughstructured interchanges with community providers and researchers, and through intervention manuals based onTRC component research; (5) monthly meetings to provide ongoing education into drug abuse research and toassist component investigators in their formulation and resolution of research issues; (6) grant, manuscript, andmanual review committees; (7) fiscal and administrative support to TRC investigators, as well as investigatorsleading affiliated studies, especially junior faculty.
