This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.During the reporting period, we examined a variety of phenyltropane analogs of cocaine as potential medications for cocaine addicts. The synthesis and properties of various 3-phenyltropanes selective for the dopamine transporter were examined in the past year. In addition to characterizing these novel compounds, we have shown that many of these compounds have psychostimulant-like properties, which is important given our goal.
