The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Objective: To prevent HIV breast milk transmission, an HIV vaccine should elicit anti-HIV immunity at the initial site of virus exposure in the oral cavity as well as throughout the infants' body. This study tested the hypothesis that passively-transferred, SIV-specific antibodies elicited by vaccination and that can mediate killing of SIV-infected cells (Antibody Dependent Cellular Cytotoxicity, ADCC) may protect against oral SIV challenge of neonatal rhesus macaques.
