This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This is Project 1 of the Program Project 'Diet and Genotype in Primate Atherosclerosis.'The overall goal of Project 1 is to identify genes that influence measured risk factors of atherosclerosis using a genome-wide search in pedigreed baboons. Identification of genes that influence common diseases is challenging due to contributions and interactions of multiple genes and multiple environmental factors. To identify genes influencing atherosclerosis, we are using our pedigreed baboon colony, which provides a defined genetic system with measurable traits and allows control of environmental conditions, in conjunction with chromosomal region expression profiling in regions of interest for atherosclerosis-related quantitative trait loci (QTLs).
