This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This renewal will produce transgene expressing primate offspring and sets of genetically identical non-human primate offspring. The three aims posed: 1) To produce at least ten cloned non-human primates by overcoming unanticipated hurdles in cytoplasmic inheritance just discovered during primate cloning; 2) To produce at least eight sets of identical offspring through embryo splitting; and, 3) To produce at least sixteen transgene-expressing primate offspring. Baboons provide a valuable non-human primate model in which to investigate human disease using genetically pedigreed animals.
