The Administrative Core is the key vehicle for strategic planning, faculty and staff development,financial management, project management, regulatory compliance, communication and coordination acrossthe Robert Brigham MCRC (the Center). The overarching goal of the Administrative Core is to provide thestructural elements and processes that facilitate Center leadership and management. The PI of the Core isJeffrey N. Katz, MD, MS, and the Administrative Director is Mary Scamman.The key Center leadership positions include: Dr. Katz, Center Director and PI of Project 1; ElizabethKarlson, MD, Associate Center Director and PI of Project 2; Elena Losina, PhD, Director of MethodologyCore, Matthew H. Liang, MD, MPH, Director Emeritus, Maura Iversen, ScD, DPT, PI of Project 3, and MaryScamman, Administrative Director. These individuals comprise the Executive Strategy Planning Committee,which meets monthly to address strategic issues such as scientific direction, faculty recruitment, andstrategic investment in technology. The Core also has an Operations Committee that includes the MCRCProject Managers and other key management personnel. This group meets monthly to coordinateoperational issues such as distribution of workload among research personnel.Communication across the Center is enhanced by a web site, a weekly scientific meeting which isintroduced by Center wide announcements, the Executive and Operations Committee meetings, and anAnnual Retreat. The Center has an explicit internal advisory structure within the Division of Rheumatology,Immunology and Allergy at Brigham and Women's Hospital. There are also plans for regular external review.A Data Sharing plan is presented that adheres to NIAMS guidelines. One of the MCRC projects will beconducted in the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC).In summary, the Administrative Core provides strategic direction and coordination across allcomponents of the center. Led by Dr. Katz, the Center Director, and Mary Scamman, a highly experiencedand talented administrative leader, the Core articulates the broad goals and specific objectives of the Centerand ensures that these objectives are supported logistically and materially.Public Health Summary: The Robert Brigham MCRC conducts research to improve the quality of life ofpatients with arthritis and musculoskeletal disorders.
