The application constitutes a request for funds to support the travel and participation of pre-doctoral and post-doctoral trainees, junior investigator, minority and women scientists from the United States in the 9th International Congress of Immunology. Sponsored by the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS) and the American Association of Immunologists (AAI), the Congress will convene July 23-29, 1995 in San Francisco, California. The main objectives of the Congress are to provide a venue where the latest research results and significant findings in all aspects of immunology can be revealed and discussed; and to provide a world-wide update of the progress being achieved by the international community of immunologists. The Congress will be planned and hosted by the American Association of Immunologists (AAI). AAI's purpose is to advance knowledge of immunology and related disciplines, to foster interchange of ideas and information among investigators in the various disciplines and to promote an understanding of the field of immunology. Awarded funds will be managed by AAI, a 501 (c) 3 nit-for-profit professional association. The Council of AAI, with the assistance of the Program and Executive Committees of the Congress, will establish a Travel Award Committee that will select the awardees from a group of AAI member and non-member applicants who will compete for financial assistance to attend and participate in the Congress. Some of these individuals will participate in the Congress as presenters, others as attendees. A special effort will be made to identify minority applicants.
