This is a revised renewal application for years 11-16 of the University of Florida ?Training Program in Regenerative Medicine? T32 Institutional Research Training Grant DK074367. The current renewal application seeks an additional five years of funding for a multi-disciplinary training program in Stem Cell Biology & Regenerative Medicine to support fuor pre-doctoral trainees and two post-doctoral fellows. This represents the addition of one additional pre-doctoral training slot over our current grant award, as recommended by the previous reviewers. The goal of this training program is to produce independent investigators capable of sustaining productive research programs studying the molecular and cellular aspects of stem cell biology and the use of stem cell products in patient care. Stem cell biology, outside of hematopoietic stem cells, is a relatively new area with great potential for development of novel treatments for both human and animal diseases ? Regenerative Medicine. With the emerging interest in stem cell biology and Regenerative Medicine, the need for trained researchers cannot be overstated.
This is a revised renewal application to continue supporting research training in the area of hematopoietic stem cell biology and regenerative medicine. The goal is to train new scientists to help design cell based therapies to treat a wide variety of human disease.
