THE GREEN MOUNTAIN ONCOLOGY GROUP/CCOP in an NCI funded consortium of the three full-time Community Oncologists in Vermont which has functioned since 1983 as a regional clinical cooperative group in close cooperation with the University of Vermont/Vermont Regional Cancer Center. The members of GMOG/CCOP are active members of EASTERN COOPERATIVE ONCOLOGY GROUP and NATIONAL SURGICAL ADJUVANT BREAST AND BOWEL PROJECT and have brought clinical research to the community. The GMOG/CCOP is maturing into a solid multidisciplinary organization of health care professionals based on the premise that: 1. Until we have truly effective treatments for all cancers, the patient and community are best served by a continuing emphasis on research as a model for optimal care. 2. A regional cooperative network linking the community with the University for cancer control efforts in prevention, management, and research will better utilize resources in the Green Mountain Region. The GMOG/CCOP will continue its major emphasis in participation in clinical research trials of ECOG and NSABP with anticipated accrual of 60 patient credits on these protocols. We plan to enhance our present data management by implementing electronic data processing and telecommunication between components - the Operations Office and Data Management Center and also the research bases. Cancer Control Research Studies will be carried out by implementing protocols proposed by ECOG and NSABP with estimated accrual of 30 or more cancer control credits in Year 01. GMOG is planning a local initiative in smoking cessation aimed at health care workers, especially nurses, using Dr. Roger Secker-Walker of the University as our consultant.
