Core 1 is the conceptual driver for the entire Center. It is founded on the conviction that the physical sciences in general, and physics in particular, offer new and penetrating insights into the origin, behavior and management of cancer. By asking disruptive, provocative and challenging questions, the Core will facilitate the sort of major conceptual leap that will transform understanding ofthe subject. Core 1 will exploit the highly successful """"""""brainstorming"""""""" ethos ofthe Beyond Center for Fundamental Concepts in Science at Arizona State University, a """"""""think

Public Health Relevance

Progress in cancer has been incremental, but slow. Our Center seeks to create a new paradigm based on the physical correlates of cancer cell progression. Its education and outreach components, to be managed by Core 1, targets sections ofthe community with special vulnerabilities to cancer, as well as training a new cadre of scientists working at the interface of physics and cancer cell biology.
