This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Dr. Claire (Kendal) Wright's research focuses on a novel cytokine, Pre-B cell colony-enhancing factor (PBEF) also called Visfatin, and its role in the fetal membranes. She is also interested in the distension response of PBEF and how this interfaces with the cytokine cascade which develops at term to lead to timely parturition. She's been working on this cytokine in the human fetal membranes for the last two years under the mentorship of Dr Gillian Bryant-Greenwood (Professor of Molecular Endocrinology). Dr. Claire Kendal is currently a Junior Researcher in the Pacific Biosciences Research Center at UH where her aim is to become an independent researcher by obtaining independent NIH funding for her work. After obtaining her PhD in January 2001, she completed a short post-doctoral fellowship in collaboration with Glaxo Welcome at the Open University in the UK, she then completed three years as a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Biochemistry at Imperial College London, UK. This was followed by her two years at the University of Hawai'i. Therefore, she has extensive experience in several different laboratories and has learned a wide range of research techniques. This has also allowed her to experience a broad range of biological research ranging from neuropathology, to growth factors and cell signaling, to her current situation, where she is expanding her expertise in the field of reproductive immunology.
