This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The major goal of this project is to study the potential use of vitamin D in tissue fibrosis degeneration. The hypothesis will be tested through the following specific aims:
Aim 1. To determine whether vitamin D promotes an anti-fibrotic phenotype in multipotent mesenchymal cells.
Aim 2. To study whether vitamin D inhibits cell proliferation and promotes cell cycle arrest in multipotent C3H-10T (1/2)) cells without inducing apoptosis.
Aim 3. To determine the role of vitamin D on the in vitro differentiation of a mouse mesenchymal pluripotent stem cell line (C3H-10T (1/2)) into alternative cell lineages.
