Denise Young and collaborators, at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Chapel Hill, will undertake a program whereby an informal science center, a research university and students will create a new model of programming for the dissemination of current scientific research. The project will develop a best-practice process model for working with researchers to create programming based on their science, and develop and utilize a best-practice content model for educating the public about the science.
The project will bring together efforts at a leading informal science center, and a research university with faculty and students in areas of astronomy, chemistry and materials science. This multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional program will serve to broaden the impact of the project, as will the involvement of graduate and undergraduate students in an internship program that bridges research and public outreach.
