The project involves the assembly of a high-performance Beowulf-class supercomputer to provide over 2.6 trillion floating point operations per second. The system will be used for a wide variety of astronomical research projects, including the modeling of emissions and other aspects of comets, planetary atmospheres, extra-solar planets, the birth and evolution of stars, the hierarchical growth of galaxies and clusters and their large-scale distribution.
