This award will extend the documentation of the Ioway, Otoe-Missouria language that the PI, Jimm Goodtracks, has carried out over the past four decades, and that resulted in a 9000 word lexicon and primary and intermediate level teaching materials. This project will create an enhanced encyclopedic dictionary with detailed illustrations of word usage. This resource will be made available on CDs, in print, and on internet websites so that it can be used by community members and scholars alike. Further, it will be a major resource in language revitalization efforts now being undertaken by individual tribal communities, as it will provide information about the spoken language of the Elders and also much cultural information not readily available or familiar to the present generation. These efforts are of great significance, since the last two fluent speakers of the Ioway, Otoe-Missouria language died ten years ago.
