This project is for five years. The funds will be used to directly support the development and construction of devices intended to aid individuals with disability. The process involves teaching senior students the practical application of their theoretical engineering knowledge to the design of devices that meet a real life need. This activity occurs over an academic year and involves principles of design, engineering ethics, interfacing with individuals with disability, actual design of a device, getting the device built, and delivering it to the client. It is a cost effective proposal that will have a positive impact on the education of numerous engineering undergraduate students and benefit the local community.
