The research group proposes to develop a photonic force microscopic (PFM) system for automated 3D visualization and controlled manipulation of biological structures and systems under physiological condition and at multiple scales ranging from mm to nm. Five (5) subsystems will be integrated. While dealing living entity, the PFM system uses feedback control based on photonic trapping that can achieve more stable and high precision performance for imaging. If the system is successfully integrated with a confocal microscope for automated 3D visual guidance, as proposed in the grant, a new frontier of basic research in nanoscale structure on diversity living systems can be anticipated.
